About the Artist
Elissa Buchalter is a Seattle-based artist and interior designer whose work explores the layered relationships between memory, place, and visual form. With a focus on large-scale murals and paintings, her practice transforms architectural spaces into immersive, narrative-rich environments. Drawing from her background in interior design, Buchalter approaches each project with a sensitivity to space, materiality, and the human experience of built environments.
Her abstract compositions—defined by bold shapes, complex color palettes, and meditative rhythm—bridge the gap between fine art and functional space. Her work invites reflection and connection, using visual storytelling as a tool to enhance both aesthetic and spatial engagement.
Buchalter holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She was awarded a Fulbright Research Grant to India, where she studied traditional Buddhist Thangka painting as a contemplative practice, and has completed residencies at the Burren College of Art in Ireland and the New York Studio Residency Program in DUMBO, New York.
Through both art and design, Buchalter crafts environments that honor memory, invite presence, and celebrate the quiet power of place.
